Clean Quetta Initiative: A Step Towards a Greener Future at Hanna Lake
On the 27th of July, Quetta Online Volunteers gathered at the scenic Hanna Lake Picnic Area for a significant environmental initiative, “Clean Quetta.” With a history of over 12 years in promoting environmental awareness and cleanliness, this event was another step towards inspiring the community to take action in preserving our natural surroundings.
A Gathering with a Purpose
The event saw the participation of over 25 dedicated volunteers, including individuals with disabilities who actively took part in the cleanup efforts, showcasing the inclusive spirit of the initiative. The primary goal was to clean up the picnic area and raise awareness about the importance of environmental conservation among the local community and visitors.
Activities and Impact
The day began with a pre-activity awareness campaign, leveraging social media platforms to highlight the significance of maintaining a clean environment and the harmful impacts of pollution. This campaign reached a wide audience, setting the tone for the day’s activities.
The volunteers, armed with gloves and garbage bags, scoured the area, picking up trash, plastics, and other non-biodegradable waste. Their efforts culminated in the collection of over 100 kg of waste, which was then disposed of properly. This not only cleaned the area but also served as a powerful visual reminder of the importance of proper waste disposal.
An interactive session followed, where participants engaged in discussions about environmental conservation. This activity was designed to educate everyone present about the significant role each individual plays in maintaining a healthy environment. The discussions highlighted simple yet effective actions, such as reducing plastic use, proper waste segregation, and participating in community clean-up efforts.
Reflections and Future Steps
The post-activity evaluation allowed participants to share their experiences and suggest improvements for future initiatives. Many expressed a deepened understanding of environmental issues and a renewed commitment to making a positive impact. The event also highlighted the need for regular cleanliness drives and the installation of waste management facilities at popular spots like Hanna Lake.
The initiative received positive feedback from the local community and visitors, who appreciated the volunteers’ efforts in maintaining the beauty of the picnic area. This community involvement is crucial for sustaining the momentum of environmental conservation efforts.
